How we manage the money
We are fully aware, that people might have some doubts about this project – but we really want you to trust us. Therefore, we are herby offering you an overview over the financials regarding a purchase.
-
Fabric $2
This is what it cost in fabric to produce 1 T-Shirt. We provide the seamstress with the fabric.
-
Purchase of a t-shirt $2
This is what the seamstress charge to sew a T-Shirt out of the fabrics provided.
-
Maintenance of the whole process $5
This is the administation cost - this is what we charge for taking the responsibility, and putting our time and effort into this.
-
Shipping cost $13
This is what it cost for you to get the item shipped - this includes the supervisors fee per T-Shirt and the transportation
This gives a total of $22. A T-Shirt bough from a non-branded company cost between $20-25, when not on sale. And keep in mind, the manufacturer of these have a <50% margin, where we only have 22%.
What we are trying to visualise, is that the seamstress and the African supervisors gets paid per item – the seamstresses do not need to do anything but sew, we give them the fabric needed. Our job here in Denmark is to make sure the processes runs smoothly, and that you get your purchased item. And if she can sew 4 T-Shirt per hour, she earns $8 an hour. This is way more than they earn at the factories. So the more you guys buy, the more they earn.
We honestly want to do this as cheap as possible, and as you can see, the shipping fee is CRAZY. But the shipping fee is included in this equation. We could say that the T-Shirt without the shipping has a value of $9, which is what the stores charge for their T-Shirt – and then charge extra for the item to be shipped.
We really want to keep this as simple as possible. But if you have any questions at all (or know how we can ship easier) feel free to contact us. We honestly appreciate any help we can get.
